I’m looking to go away for 4nights late in August with my best mate. Were going to Barcelona in July for a week so were looking at somewhere a bit different to that. We would just like a place that isn’t mega expensive, has plenty of culture and great food.

We are looking for somewhere to go for my birthday at the end of February, we have a budget of up to £600 for 4 nights, any idea s?

Fly to one of the east European countries and head to a small city or village, not the capital city.
Prague is way more expensive than the other towns in Czech republic, the same goes for Bratislava and Slovakia, Budapest and Hungary and so on.
Beach resorts are often also more expensive than the countryside around, but might be worth it.

In February you can go for winter sports in the northern half of Europe, including Czech republic, Slovakia and Poland, or for the sun in the south, take your pick.

does anyone know a good website to search for city breaks to cities like amsterdam/paris etc without having to?

enter my search details over and over again.
thanks in advance!

Expedia.co.uk one of the best and less expensive websites on the internet today, you will of course have to enter your search details over again but then again you can choose from all the cheaper hotels

Cheap city breaks in uk?

Posted by admin on October 26th, 2009 and filed under city breaks | 1 Comment »

My hubby and I have been going through some tough times recently and I’d like to take him away somewhere or do a spa break. We have a week off at the end of the month and I’d like to do it then. I don’t have a huge volume of money so my budget is prob no more than £250. Does anyone have any suggestions of places to go or sites I could go to for inspiration?
Could possibly be Europe as well as long as its cheap.

Well I’ve heard flights to Amsterdam are pretty cheap, I’d have a look there. It’s much more exciting to go abroad, even if it isn’t that far. Maybe even Dublin? That’s always popular.

If you’re looking for a ’spa break’, maybe centre parcs? Ok, not exactly a spa break, but you’re in the middle of a forest, it’s calm, you’ve got the swimming pool, restaurants etc. It cant be that expensive surely, but it depends on how long you decide to go. You say a city break though, so maybe just book yourself in somewhere nice for just a weekend? The less nights you spend there, the higher your budget. Find a balance!

City Breaks, outside England any ideas, not too far, no more than a 3/4 hour flight?

I know I should ask is this in the travel section, but no one ever answers there, treat it as a poll/survey

Where would you go ?

Barcelona is a great city for a short break, aparently there are loads of pickpockets but we never had a problem when we were there, Las Ramblas is the main street close to the beach and gothic quarter and hotels are fairly cheap. We are going to portugal next week (never been before) so i will let you know what it is like when we get back. Belgium and Italy are also places that you might want to look at. It depends what you want from the holiday.

Good idea for a city break please?

I’ve been to Paris, Prague, Rejkavik, Bologna, Salzburg, Barcelona. Where would people recommend for an interesting city break, plenty to do and see for summer 2008? Cheap too is essential.

Ohrid, Macedonia

very cheap but very fun
great great beaches, fun place to be at, great people, nice people…… and an AMAZING nightlife….. perfect mix for sightseeing, clubbing, going to the beach, and overall enjoying yourself..

flickr it…… its beautiufl…. and an experience that will top all those cities that you have been to earlier.

If you were taking a city break alone, where would you go?

I’m planning a trip later in the year, it will just be me, so I wondered where you would go alone if you could go anywhere.

Having been to Venice several times I can tell you that I felt quite safe (even though I was with other people) and I would consider going there on my own, although it’s more of a place to experience with someone special because of the atmosphere.

Salzburg of Vienna are also lovely cities that I have visited and felt safe.

My next citybreak will hopefully be to Carcassonne in France, which is supposed to be the best preserved medieval city in the world and I can’t wait to see it.

Be careful though won’t you and research plenty on the areas to avoid not just the tourist hotspots to visit. Also, my best peice of advice would be to look like a tourist as little as possible!

Where is a good destination for a city break in late September?

Posted by admin on October 17th, 2009 and filed under city breaks | 7 Comments »

I live in the UK so would want to go abroad for upto 5 days. If it was fairly cheap that would be even better. Would also like somewhere where it isn’t too cold in September. Thanks

Depends what kind of break you are after. If it needs to be sunny, then places like Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Lisbon and Marrakech spring me to mind, all of them would have good weather, food and culture – Barcelona is also handy for the beach. All of them are also served by budget airlines as well.

If you are not particularly after the sun, then Berlin, Budapest and Stockholm are good alternatives
