Where would I start in a city police dept with an asscts degree in law enfrcmnt & military police experience?

You will still have to go to an academy but I know some departments allow MPs to lateral Transfer with a year or so OJT (on the job training) to learn the state and departments procedures. But bottom line is that you will go in as a officer. You will not go in as a Sgt or anything just because your ex military. Now your military training helps as far as trying to get on SRT/SWAT or if you were K-9 in the Army that will help you with that specialty in the dept. Stuff like that. Just don’t expect to jump in with rank or pull in the department because of your background. Hope this helps.

Questions depend on the city. And no you would not be automatically disqualified for smoking pot before, just don’t lie about it – that is an automatic fail. Police officers have done drugs before, and are constantly hired. The key is DO NOT LIE! Some departments have requirements as to how long it has been since you have partaken illegal drug use and what not. Try looking at your citys website for requirements. You can be in the FBI and have experimented with many different drugs – as long as you have done them less than a certain number of times and it has been longer than the time period they allow.

YES, If there is no city police force, the city has a contract for the Sheriff to do police work for said city.
Otherwise, city limits apply to a crime within that cities jurisdiction.

how do i become a dispatcher for L.A. county or city fire dept?

i am currently working as an emt for a private ambulance company. i’m looking into a dispatch position with either city or county fire but can’t find anything online on how to do it. i have a few connections i’ve met through work, city fire captains, and more than a few firemen from various stations in los angeles. and i know a few la county sheriffs and lapd too. any help would be great. thanks!

Go to the fire departments and ask for a job application. There will probably be a civil service test and — if there are openings — a interview board. You will be put on a list to await hiring. It may take a year or more.

this ins policy was found in bottem of drawer and mom is 92 yrs young and does not remember getting the claim processed when dad passed away in 1981. so i jumped in here to find help since the www was not much help at all. i hope someone knows more than them!
