I’m visiting a relative who will be graduating from basic training at Lackland air force base in Texas. I’m wondering if it’s easy to get to the base from San Antonio’s city center without having to rent a car. I’d like to use public transportation during the trip to hit most tourist spots and the air force base. Is that possible?
Yes there are buses that go to Lackland. You may have to do a bit of walking, however, to get from the base entrance to the graduation. Bus 65 takes you to Lackland, and 611, 612, 613, 614, and 615 take you by there. I suggest that you take a taxi from time to time or have one of his friends’ parents or friends drive you around a bit. It’s a bit of a hike.
As far as downtown goes… All the tourist attractions are really close together, so you’ll have no problem.

These are the urban areas in which I’m considering law school.
Which of these do you prefer, not prefer, and why? If you choose to get even more specific:
-You can rank the cities
-You can give a little inside info about the cities
I’m not just looking at the strength of the particular law schools. I’m also interested in the strength of the local economy, proximity to other large cities for weekend trips, friendliness of the people, and nightlife.
My top choices are San Antonio, Ft. Worth, and ATL. I’m sure OKC and Tulsa have more to offer than what meets the eye, though.
I want to live in a more economically stable place with nicer weather and much friendlier people than here in Kentucky.
Thank you!
Atlanta
San Antonio
Tulsa
Fort Worth
OKC
Of all these places, Atlanta is the only real city. The others are just large towns. Tulsa is probably the nicest, but there’s hardly anything to do there. San Antonio can be fun, and there’s alot of stuff around there to do. Fort Worth and OKC are just bad/boring all the way around.
Good luck!
How is the nursing job market in San Antonio and Houston?
depends on what you like…
San Antonio is a VERY laid back relaxed city.. it has a VERY Hispanic feel (not in a bad way but lots of business’ have siesta’s etc ) lots of scenery and very fun to visit and enjoy…
Houston OTOH is more cosmopolitan… lots o high rises action all night every night.. etc….
keep in mind both cities are DISTINCTLY texan… meaning unlike NY and the east coast pick a direction drive for 90 minutes and you are OUT of the city..
Houston also has the advantage of being on the coast.. so lots of salt water activities if you enjoy them (as well as the annual hurricane scare)
so in short depends on what you enjoy in cities!
Single, Ethiopian-American woman moving to TX..is San Antonio good? Tell me what do you think? I am pretty open-minded & have been offered a job in the SA area…Thanks everyone.
San Antonio is a great city. Not sure how it is for singles, but I imagine that it is pretty good, considering that there has been a lot of growth recently.
My husband and I recently left San Antonio, TX because of how bad the crime has gotten. We love Texas and want to know if Dallas is as bad. You don’t here much about it in the news
You were living in a wrong part of San Antonio… sorry you couldn’t afford to live somewhere better in the city with less crime… news for you… Dallas is worse.
We are one of the safest metro areas in America by most statistics. he most we have is stupid little gangbangers that do nothing more than graffitti… our homicide rate is on the national average… but almost all murders are drug/family related…
Petty theft and breakins occur, but they are the exception not the norm.
I am single and looking for a fresh start, I am interested in Texas…I like Austin but heard that it’s more expensive, but what if you move just a little bit outside of town. I am planning on going to a bartending school in texas, getting a job and living there…so any help would be great.
San Antonio is cheap to live in and because it’s a tourist town Bartending is a great way to make money. Austin and Dallas can be pricey to live in and Houston just plain sucks…I’ve lived in all four so I have expereince in each.
To clarify, Austin is not expensive compare to New York and Los Angeles, but it is one of the most expensive cities in Austin, property wise and since the question was what Texas city was cheapest, Austin would not be the answer.
Sorry , its currently only available in..
Dallas / ft worth , and Indianapolis
